Das Disk Operating System kurz DOS ein Betriebssystem für den Atari , dessen Hauptaufgabe die Verwaltung von Speichermedien wie Disketten und Festplatten ist. Es ermöglicht die Kommunikation zwischen Computer und Diskettenstation oder anderen Peripheriegeräten.
In der Regel besteht das DOS aus zwei Teilen:
;DOS.SYS: bietet die Funktionalität für das Anlegen, Umbenennen, Löschen und Lesen von Dateien sowie das Formatieren von Disketten.
;DUP.SYS:__D__isk __U__tility __P__ackege - ermöglicht den menügesteuerten Zugriff auf die DOS-Funktionen und zusätzlich ist das Kopieren sowie Duplizieren von Dateien möglich.
